Award 2011

Award 2011 appreciates the exemplary commitment for Wespenstein castle

„The association for the conservation of monuments in Thuringia e. V.“ awards the conservation concept of the momument - press release, 26.08.2011

Wespenstein castle in the country of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt and the founder and sponsor Dr. Wolfgang Wehr receive the annual award of the association „Fördervereins Denkmalpflege in Thüringen“. This was presented by the chairman of the association, Frank Krätzschmar, right after the meeting of the jury. The 30.000 Euro valued price which is partly financed by the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen is awarded by the jury because of the sustainable restauration concept for this important monument in the city of Graefenthal. The paramount activity is the abatement of the botetus destructor/dry rot of the roof structure for which the money will be used.

The price was initiated last year by the association „Förderverein Denkmalpflege in Thüringen e. V.“. Projects are awarded which have not been finished yet, but which have been started with determination and an excellent planning phase and which possess great potential. The jury considers conservational, economical and ecological aspects as well as the sustainability of the initiative. Extraordinary consideration is given to projects which have been started by a group of people or a committed single person and which have large effects to the surrounding society.
